SunStrong Management Continuing mySunPower App

SunStrong Management has announced to SunPower customers, they purchased the mySunPower app. Many homeowners with SunPower systems had reported in the last 6 months, losing access to the mySunPower monitoring app. If you have lost access, and did NOT already install an Enphase monitoring retrofit, you can delete your existing mySunPower app and download a new version, and log into the app again.

We're excited to announce that SunStrong Management has taken ownership of the mySunPower app. We are committed to maintaining and enhancing your solar monitoring experience with ongoing support and new features planned for the future. IMPORTANT SERVICE UPDATES Two changes are coming to your solar monitoring service: We're introducing a premium tier for most monitoring features. Basic access will be limited to WiFi connection management and firmware updates only. For the small number of customers using cellular connections, we're transitioning to WiFi-only connectivity by 4/15/2025. VERIFY YOUR CONNECTION Please check your connection status following these steps: Update your mobile app to the latest version Open the mySunPower app Tap the Profile icon at the bottom of the screen Check your System Connection status: If it shows "Connected to WiFi" - No action needed If it shows "Cellular" or "System not communicating" - Select "WiFi Settings" and follow the on-screen connection workflow ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Watch for upcoming communications with details about premium features and pricing, as well as FAQs and support resources to help guide you through these changes. Best regards, SunStrong Management

If you have installed an Enphase monitoring kit, and still need assistance with creating your solar panel maps (showing per panel production), your installation contractor can help you create your module maps, inside your app and include your inverter serial numbers in the mapping. Please reach out to us if you are a client and need assistance with this.

Enphase is the manufacturer of SunPower branded microinverters installed with SunPower systems from mid 2019- 2024. Enphase has confirmed, they will honor their 25 year warranty for any Enphase manufactured microinverters installed with SunPower panels. Prior to 2019, the microinverters being installed with SunPower panels were manufactured by SolarBridge Technologies and these are not warranted by Enphase.

If you have already installed your Enphase monitoring retrofit, please know that any warranty claims you need to process in the future with Enphase, will be made easier and quicker, with Enphase having direct access to your microinverter monitoring.

Currently, contractors have limited access inside their SunPower "fleet" monitoring and are having to go out in person to homes with suspected inverter issues. Individual panel monitoring was removed for contractors and its unclear if it will return or require additional costs to access on a contractor level. This is no longer a concern for customers who have converted over to the Enphase monitoring platform.

A few key takeaways:

If you are financially strained, keep using your mySunPower app for as long as it works!

If you are able to install the Enphase monitoring retrofit, here are a few benefits:

  • The price is currently reasonable (compared to others prices), installing the Enphase monitoring hardware with Enphase directly. ($699 plus tax)
  • SunStrong is proposing additional fees for full app benefits in their latest email communication.
  • You avoid "premium fees" SunStrong management plans to charge for monitoring features previously included in your mySunPower app- such as per panel monitoring.
  • Enphase holds your 25 year microinverter warranty. Them having visibility of your devices and access to monitoring will streamline support and warranty claims for any issues arising in the future.
  • The SunPower PVS 6 is no longer covered in a warranty. If it stops working, you will need to pay a future cost to replace when the time comes.
  • Contractor visibility of device performance is currently limited with the mySunPower app. Contractors have lost access to per panel monitoring. Trouble shooting requires in person visits for trouble shooting. No desktop access was maintained. Only the app.

If you installed your SunPower system, prior to 2019, you may have SolarBridge microinverters, SMA inverters, Solar Edge inverters or another inverter option. Reach out for solutions and options.

Installing a Tesla battery is one option that also provides new monitoring access to your solar system, while also providing emergency back-up power to your home.

If you already installed Enphase, please be sure to add your installation contractor for service support and visibility. Your contractor service team will need access as "PV System Maintainer" in order to update the individual panel layout.

For SolarTech clients: email to ask for the correct email address to enter as “PV Maintainer” in your new app.

FAQs related to this article

Q: Is the $699 (plus tax) cost of an Enphase monitoring retrofit one-time or annual?  Is this the monitoring that allows for individual monitoring of panels and inverters?

A: It's a one time fee. Yes, Enphase allows for per panel monitoring. To setup per panel monitoring in the retrofit, you would need to add your installation contractor as the "PV Maintainer," so they have access to update your "map" in your Enphase account. Once they have access, they draw your panel layout, and match serial numbers to the panels in your account. This only works if your microinverters are Enpahse and not Solarbridge. (post mid 2019 installations)

Q: Is the $699 Enphase monitoring required to have the 25-year warranty?

A: No, Enphase monitoring is not required for warranty claims. But proof of the malfunction is required in a warranty claim, so a service technician would need to help you document the issues to prove your case, vs Enphase having access themselves to view the issues remotely.

Q: I have already transferred from SunPower to Enphase so is there anything I need to do?

A: For your new Enphase portal, you want to add your contractor as your maintainer. Once the contractor is added, they can help you create your solar map, like you were able to see in your mySunPower app previously.

Q: It appears that we will be charged a fee now for the system to be monitored?

A: You can keep your existing monitoring, and do nothing, and no additional fees will be incurred. You can also retrofit to Enphase for a one-time fee of $699 plus tax. You can also wait to see what SunStong comes up with for their “premium plan” that will include per panel monitoring.
